TLDR: The chest is solid wood and looks great; the color was what I expected from the pictures. But the assembly was difficult; it required a power drill and wood glue. Additionally, the chest doesn’t open/close all the way and the screws securing the hinge to the top can rip out if you aren’t careful opening it. I wouldn’t expect a well-assembled/sturdy chest at this price range. If you are looking for a chest that looks nice to keep around for a few years this will work but if you are in the market for a piece to keep long-term you will likely have to pay more or check thrift stores/antique shops. The product looks very nice and is solid wood. I like the design and the color was exactly what I expected from the photos. It stores a lot and has a simple but appealing design that can look good in a variety of different decors. Even though not all the sides of the chest fit together perfectly, unless you are looking closely you don’t really notice. However, there are a few problems with the design that are hard to overlook.Despite the wood being solid, the hinges and attachment hardware were not. I had to apply wood glue to the pegs holding the sides to the front/back because even with everything installed and tightened, the box was wobbly. The instructions were not very clear and as some reviews mentioned you have to be very careful about which sides you use for left/right because if you make a mistake you will need to fully disassemble/reassemble it. Additionally, one set of pilot holes where the hinge attached to the top cover were misplaced, so I had to use my power drill to re-drill them. When assembling this I would advise you have wood glue and an electric drill with a set of drill bits handy. Lastly, when the product is fully assembled not all of the sides line up perfectly which, to be fair, should be expected from a piece you build yourself. In my opinion the biggest design flaw is the hinge. The box does not fully open (mine opens to about 70 degrees) nor stay fully closed (there is always about a 1/3 inch gap unless you put weight on the top). It will not close itself, mine gets stuck at about 45 degrees, which to some may be nice but I found annoying. Lastly, you have to be very careful about opening it. When I first opened it, I attempted to fully open it (90 degrees) and one of the screws connecting the hinge to the top partially tore out. I did not have to apply a lot of force to do this so I would advise being very careful opening the chest, especially when approaching max range of motion. It is still holding but the screw no longer stays fully fastened since it tore out of the wood. I may apply wood glue to the ripped out screw and WD40 to the hinge which could mitigate these problems but have not done so yet.All together, I can't say I love this chest because of its design flaws. But given how inexpensive it is, if you like the chest's aesthetics and are just looking for something to accent your room for a couple of years it will likely meet your expectations. If you are hoping to invest in a piece of furniture that you want to keep for many years, you will likely have to either search antique stores/thrift shops or look at chests at a higher price point.Took a while to put it together but it looks great and is sturdy. If I ever get the bright idea of ordering furniture that needs to be assemble, I either need my head to be examined or get married to a charming guy who knows how to do that stuff. I have started putting it together and....... realized I needed to charge the drill and the screwdriver. Once that was done, I don't do so well with pictures, and I started. The top part of the "hasp" had markers for the 4 screws, so I had to pre-drill the holes, realized that one of the holes should not have been at the top but at the bottom, no clue why they had marked one at the top, so the hasp is on upside down. I have had more luck with the sides. I hope I can comprehend the rest of the pictures. Once done, and it must be why we havehandles on each side, so you can drag it in place. It does look very handsome/pretty and while I am not for dark colors, it is a pretty dark cherry color.I need to add to my comments now that a nice neighbor help me finish the assembly. Actually he did it and I was there for support and holding a flashlight. What we found out is that pilot holes are not drilled properly, The wooden "pegs" (name escapes me) are way undersized and it would have made such a difference if the pieces were listed with "front"/"back", "Left side/right side. It may have meant an additional dollar or so, but it would have helped the customer, if that makes a difference. But for $110, what can you expect?Only had it one day but so far great! Bought to match media center we had, color is exactly as shown in the photos! Very sturdy, good quality materials (real wood, not pressboard). Very Nice designed to hide all the fasteners, does not look like a piece you had to put together at home. EZ to follow pictorial instructions and labeled parts.Would have given it 5 stars but tightening one screw(of the total about 50 screws), by hand, and it snapped off. Worried now the hinge may not hold as well as it should. Its fixable with some effort and trip to Home Depo/Lowes to buy parts. Tons of storage area inside and perfect size for our room. Would buy again.I love the table/trunk once it is finally put together. It's bigger than I thought it would be. It has lots of storage space inside. A helpful hint that will make this easier to move once it is together. I put some Magic slide furniture sliders on the bottom of the legs it slides like a dream now so much easier to move. It is very heavy otherwise. The instructions that come with are completely useless. I paid for their expensive assembly and even he had to take it apart and put it back together so the hinges for the lid would go on the right way. If you pay for the assembly not only is it expensive be prepared to wait all day for them to arrive. My appointment started out 11 am and kept getting pushed back. He finally arrived at 5:40 pm. I realize I could have rescheduled the appointment but my time is valuable too. I was not going to waste another day hoping that someone would show up.I am 77 year old widowed female and I put this together by my self. Love it!! I needed to add that since everyone said you needed an extra set of hands to put the inside brackets on I was going to wait on my son…but decided I could turn it on its side and put pillows under the lid to get the right angle and had them installed by myself in no timeI think for the money it is a beautiful coffee table/ storage chest. The assembly was a little tricky but if you put a sheet of styrofoam under the base when you are putting the sides on, it will raise it up to the level of the slots/grooves along all of the side pieces. Also, the #1 screw/spacers for the smaller side pieces need to have the head of the screw sticking up above the rubber spacer far enough through the hole for the #2 locking screws to be able to turn around the head of the screw. Once you see how they connect and go together it is very straight forward and very sturdy. I am very happy with this purchase and am thinking about purchasing another as a wedding present!Great quality and product. Only bad thing is putting it together is a bit of a puzzle!
